The major theme we constantly keep in view is how to maintain and strengthen high-quality medical collaboration in the Suwa region in response to future demographic changes. Toward that goal, the on-premises PACS we had operated for over 15 years presented not only rising operational costs – maintenance expenses grew more expensive with each hardware expansion at every renewal – but also structural challenges.
With an on-premises system that kept data within the hospital, we felt there were limits to how flexibly we could share information and deepen collaboration with other medical institutions in the future. Solving the problem of rising maintenance costs while simultaneously building the foundation for future regional collaboration – to achieve both, we concluded that migrating to the cloud was essential, and in September 2024 we decided to adopt Cloud PACS NOBORI.
Since implementation, we have experienced clear benefits on both the functional side – image viewing speeds equivalent to our on-premises system thanks to the Smart Retrieve feature, and viewer customizability that lets each user pursue their own ease of use – and on the operational/management side, including an all-inclusive monthly fee covering maintenance and regular reports on server capacity. While we had concerns about stable operation during the system transition, the migration went smoothly and the system has run stably day to day, so we haven't experienced any issues.
The rapid response capability and thorough support system – immediately identifying the cause of even minor issues after go-live and working with us to find solutions tailored to our hospital – have been a great source of reassurance for our staff on the ground. Going forward, we will leverage this cloud infrastructure to further advance collaboration with nearby medical institutions and contribute to improving the quality of regional healthcare as a whole.
